Sharing Inspirational Stories of Good Practices and Read Aloud at TBM Nurul Huda Majalengka

Majalengka – To improve literacy in reading and writing, as well as to increase knowledge and experience for literacy communities or volunteers in Majalengka Regency, West Java, the Community Reading Park (TBM) Nurul Huda held an inspirational sharing activity. Notably, the resource person presented was Agus Munawar, the owner of the Gada Membaca Community in Ciamis Regency, whose community was recently declared one of the top three best in the national assessment.

Another resource person was an experienced storyteller from Cilimus, Kuningan Regency, who provided material on read aloud techniques. In his presentation, Agus emphasized and encouraged literacy activists in Majalengka, volunteers of reading houses, to continue their dedication to spreading the love of reading and writing and to encourage school children to visit community libraries and government-owned libraries more often.

“Managing libraries, reading parks, or reading corners, whatever you call it, must start from sincerity and from oneself. Don’t ask your neighbors to read books if the manager themselves doesn’t read,” he said on September 13, 2025.

Agus added that literacy volunteers and activists must also apply the knowledge and share the experiences gained from training and technical guidance. “Knowledge must be practiced and implemented so that there is sustainability. Try to reorganize and improve after returning from here. No matter how small, it must be practiced to be beneficial,” he said.

Meanwhile, the manager of TBM Nurul Huda Majalengka, Dody Jaya S. Pd, said that this year, his organization was selected along with 100 other communities to receive a program themed “Facilitation and Development of Community Groups: Appreciation for Literacy Communities” from the Language Development and Game Agency of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.

“This activity is very necessary. The participants are TBM activists, library activists, and literacy volunteers from communities focused on increasing reading and writing interest and sustainability,” he explained.

One of the literacy activists from the Karayunan library, Farida, welcomed the activity involving volunteers and literacy activists in Majalengka Regency. “Usually, the one who invites is the department, now it’s the community, namely TBM Nurul Huda, that invites. I’m happy to gain knowledge and build relationships,” she said.

The read aloud activity held on September 14, 2025, featured a resource person from Kuningan Regency, an expert in storytelling, Kak Ila. The participants were teachers from study groups and early childhood education teachers. The teachers were encouraged to instill the importance of reading books aloud and loudly.

“However, as parents, we must set an example first. If we want our children to read books, we should read books first,” she said. Kak Ila added that reading aloud would train children to pronounce words and sentences and increase their vocabulary.

“Books are the windows of the world. For early childhood who cannot read yet, the task of parents is to be the key that opens the window of the world for children,” she explained.

After providing material, Kak Ila motivated the participants that as parents, it’s not enough to just have intentions and willingness; action is also necessary. “Start reading books to your children, even if it’s just for a short time, but it will be memorable. We never know what sentences or stories they will remember. But believe that every story delivered sincerely will find its way to inspire children,” she concluded
