MAJALENGKA – macakata.com – The West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati welcomed its first cargo flight carrying 900 sheep from Australia.
The cargo arrived at Kertajati Airport on Tuesday (28/01/2025) at 07:00 WIB, using a MASkargo aircraft operated by Malaysia Airlines.
The moment was witnessed directly by the Acting Governor of West Java, Bey Machmudin, accompanied by the Acting Regent of Majalengka, Dedi Supandi, and the President Director of BIJB.
“This is the first cargo to Kertajati, which is a shipment of 900 sheep from Australia,” said Bey.
The 900 Australian sheep consisted of Dorper Black Head breeding stock (60 males + 475 females), Suffolk breeding stock (80 males + 140 females), and Texel breeding stock (45 males + 100 females). The sheep will subsequently be quarantined in Cilacap, Central Java.
Bey explained that this cargo shipment is part of efforts to revitalize Kertajati Airport.
In addition to serving passengers, the airport in Majalengka Regency will also be enlivened by domestic and international cargo activities.
“This is part of our efforts to revitalize Kertajati,” he said.
Bey mentioned that the non-transportation costs for cargo services at Kertajati Airport are relatively cheaper compared to other airports.
Therefore, Bey invited importers, in particular, to utilize cargo services at Kertajati Airport.
“Earlier, I asked the importer, and the non-transportation costs here are cheaper than at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. They will also choose Kertajati in the future,” he stated.
Another advantage is that Kertajati Airport’s navigation system is more advanced, even in foggy weather. This was experienced by the MASkargo pilot when landing at Kertajati.
“Earlier, I asked the pilot, and the runway is good and safe, especially with the advanced navigation system. It’s safer because even though the weather was foggy, there were no issues,” said Bey.
Meanwhile, the Acting Regent of Majalengka, Dedi Supandi, appreciated the role of the West Java Provincial Government in enlivening activities at Kertajati Airport.
“The Majalengka Regency Government will continue to support the optimization of the West Java International Airport Kertajati to enhance connectivity and improve services for the community,” said Dedi Supandi.
The Acting Regent of Majalengka is confident that the Kertajati Airport area will continue to develop, given the airport’s excellent potential. (Acil) ****
