Bunda Hj. Yosa Novita, Kawunghilir Village Head, Shares Rice with Hundreds of Residents

2.5 Tons of Rice Distributed to Kawunghilir and Neighboring Villages

MAJALENGKA – macakata.com –The Village Head (Kuwu) of Kawunghilir, Hj. Yosa Novita, distributed rice to hundreds of residents, primarily targeting the elderly, senior citizens, and relatives.

Not only did she distribute rice in her immediate neighborhood, but Bunda Hj. Yosa Novita also shared large plastic bags of rice with residents of neighboring villages. A total of 2.5 tons of rice were distributed.

“Praise be to God, this is from me personally. It’s a routine effort every year. Since everything we have is merely entrusted to us, I want to share,” she said on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Bunda Hj. Yosa Novita added that, aside from sharing rice as an act of love and gratitude, she also invited attendees to a communal iftar (breaking of the fast) at her home.

“Everyone is welcome to eat to their heart’s content. I’m simply happy because sharing brings joy. This has been a tradition in previous years as well,” she remarked.

Meanwhile, all recipients of the rice and those who joined the iftar expressed gratitude to Bunda Hj. Yosa Novita.

Reintroducing Interest-Free Loans

Bunda Hj. Yosa Novita has also revived an interest-free loan program to prevent residents from borrowing from loan sharks (“bank emok”). She once went undercover to experience the process of borrowing from such lenders.

“At the time, I visited a market in Majalengka Regency and tried to borrow one million rupiah. Turns out, I had to repay one million two hundred and fifty thousand rupiah—the interest was shockingly high,” she explained.

Concerned by this, Bunda Hj. Yosa Novita noted that some residents of Kawunghilir still face financial difficulties, especially families with school-aged children.

Now in her fourth year as village head, she plans to relaunch the loan program for families with junior high school students.

“I don’t want parents trapped by loan sharks. Thankfully, since introducing the interest-free loan program, no residents have borrowed from bank emok,” she emphasized. (Acil/Rik)
