SMPN 1 Kasokandel Develops Palm Tree Nursery, Becomes Role Model in Majalengka

Majalengka – There are many palm tree seedlings in the environment of SMPN 1 Kasokandel, Majalengka Regency, West Java. Meanwhile, in other schools, this has never been done before. Therefore, SMPN 1 Kasokandel is declared as a pioneer and is expected to become a role model for other junior high schools in Majalengka Regency.

According to several students, the nursery and development of palm trees are intentionally done as an effort to maintain the environment and practice science in a real way. The Head of the Education Office, H Rd Moch Umar Marup, positively appreciates all the creativity that exists in SMPN 1 Kasokandel, which was displayed at the 47th anniversary celebration in 2025.

Regarding the palm tree nursery in the school, which is the only one in Majalengka Regency, it can be used as an example. “It’s only in this school. I hope the nursery is easy and inexpensive, so it can be followed by every junior high school in Majalengka Regency by developing palm tree plantations,” said the Head of Education.

Umar added that SMPN 1 Kasokandel, which is now 47 years old, has a well-organized school environment and a high level of creativity, as seen in painting or making trash cans from used materials. This is quite praiseworthy for improving character education for children. “We thank the principal and teachers who have nurtured and educated them, and hopefully, they can be improved further,” he said.

Meanwhile, the principal of SMPN 1 Kasokandel, Ahmad Syukur, said that the interest in attending school at SMPN 1 Kasokandel continues to increase. In the past two years, the number of new students has increased, and this year there are 859 students with only 58 teachers and administrative staff.

To commemorate the 47th anniversary, SMPN 1 Kasokandel held a celebration of student creativity and competitions between elementary schools, including a futsal competition and solo singing competition. “We also practice the theory given to students by directly practicing it, such as with bazaar activities, with the aim of providing knowledge and experience to students,” he explained.

The 47th anniversary celebration was held for two days to practice the theory and practice obtained by the students. “There is also a collection of coins from different eras, so people can see the development of rupiah coins from year to year,” he said.

Separately, the Head of the Junior High School Division at the Majalengka Education Office, Iwan Rusmawan, added that there is a need for additional learning space at SMPN 1 Kasokandel due to the increasing number of new students. “Hopefully, the creativity of SMPN 1 Kasokandel students will continue to increase and become even better,” he said.
