MAJALENGKA – macakata.com – Not only financially capable individuals are initiating acts of sharing this Ramadan. Students with physical limitations, namely those from SLB B YPLB Majalengka (a special needs school), are also diligently setting aside their pocket money.
The students’ savings are collected in a marked used tin can, known as a *kencleng* (a traditional bamboo savings box). The box is opened once a month. This time, it was opened during Ramadan.
Sri Aminah, Head of SLB B Majalengka, explained that Ramadan activities at the school always include programs such as *SmartTen*, scheduled to run from March 6 to 24, 2025.
“Initially, only the teachers contributed. But then the students joined in. Alhamdulillah, this has been running for a year now,” she said on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Sri Aminah added that despite the students’ physical challenges, teachers continually encourage them to stay motivated and keep learning.
“Sharing with underprivileged residents, especially using money saved by the students themselves, is truly remarkable. They genuinely want to give,” she emphasized.
Before distributing packages to residents in the neighborhood, including a local tire repairman, the students participated in coloring Arabic calligraphy phrases.
They also performed a drama and sang together. Representatives from Baznas Majalengka (the local zakat agency) and the Head of the Majalengka Education Office attended the event.
Umar Ma’ruf, Head of the Majalengka Education Office, expressed appreciation for the students’ efforts, noting their willingness to consistently save their pocket money.
“Though the amount may be small, the core of this initiative is character education. I highly commend the students and teachers. We should learn from them,” he said. (Rik )
