MAJALENGKA – Majalengka resident Linda Yuliana has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for allegedly smuggling narcotics in Ethiopia, Africa. The verdict was handed down by the Ethiopian Court on Friday, April 4, 2025.
Linda is currently being held at Kaliti Prison 4, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, since June 2024. This information was conveyed by the Chairperson of the Majalengka Migrant Forum, Ida Neni Wahyuni alias Raida. Raida received this information directly from Linda, who was given the opportunity to report on her case.
Raida has been accompanying Linda throughout this case. “Today, Linda called and said she had been sentenced to 6 years and 6 months,” Raida said on Friday, April 4, 2025.
According to Raida, Linda can appeal the verdict as long as she prepares USD 1,000 or approximately IDR 16 million (exchange rate IDR 16,000). “The appeal must also be accompanied by evidence,” Raida said.
Raida hopes that the government will soon provide assistance to Linda regarding the narcotics case. Raida also hopes that the government and police will soon apprehend the perpetrator who allegedly trapped Linda in this case.
“We hope the government will provide maximum assistance to Linda. Linda can be returned home because she is not the perpetrator; she was framed. The real perpetrator is still at large,” Raida said.
To date, Linda has undergone more than 10 trials without adequate legal representation. The verdict hearing was postponed several times since March 4, 2025, and was only decided today.
Linda’s Condition
According to Raida, Linda’s condition in the Ethiopian prison is concerning. She lacks clothing, food, and financial support. The only communication she can have is through the Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Ethiopia and her accompanying lawyer.
Linda Yuliana (28) is the fourth of four siblings. After her divorce, she decided to become an Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) in 2022, working in Taiwan before returning to Indonesia in 2023. In 2024, Linda went to Beijing, China, but returned to Indonesia after one month due to health issues.
The disaster began when Linda received a job offer from her friend, Dinda, who promised a salary of IDR 15 million to deliver ‘gold powder’ to Ethiopia. Linda was eventually arrested upon arrival in Ethiopia with the package that turned out to contain narcotics.
Dinda’s Whereabouts and New Evidence
According to information from Raida, Linda was promised by Dinda to deliver ‘gold powder’ with a payment of IDR 15 million. Dinda is currently in Cambodia. One of Linda’s friends, Sonia, is willing to testify that Linda did not know the contents of the package she was carrying.
Linda’s family has reported this case to the Majalengka Police Department so that it can be immediately investigated. Dinda is known to have also recruited another victim, Siska, who was supposed to receive the package from Linda in Laos. However, after learning that Linda was arrested, Siska immediately returned to Indonesia and was safe.
Linda was arrested with evidence in the form of narcotics disguised as chocolate and soap at the Ethiopian airport. ***
