Fahmina Institute Invites PUI Majalengka Youth to Understand Diversity and Religious Pluralism

Majalengka – In collaboration with several youth organizations in Majalengka Regency, predominantly the youth of Persatuan Umat Islam (PUI), Fahmina Institute organized a talk show on the urgency of youth roles in maintaining national unity through religion and Pancasila.

The program manager of Fahmina Institute, Alifatul Arifiati, emphasized that understanding diversity is crucial for young people. Therefore, differences should become a spirit to maintain diversity. “We should respect each other with a love for differences, so we shouldn’t provoke each other even if we have different religions or organizations,” she said on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Alif added that although Majalengka Regency is predominantly Muslim, there are also non-Muslim communities, albeit in small percentages. Majalengka is a miniature of Indonesia, recognizing diversity and religious pluralism. “Majalengka is a miniature of Indonesia, meaning that when discussing religion, it’s not just about Islam, but also Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and others. When talking about Islamic organizations, there are PUI, Muhammadiyah, Persatuan Islam, and many more, so it’s essential to instill the importance of peace and understanding differences,” she said.

A similar sentiment was expressed by Muh Fajar Shidik CH, MAP, a member of the Majalengka Regency DPRD. He said that discussing diversity and religious pluralism with PUI youth is a new space that should be welcomed. Usually, PUI activities focus on trending educational issues, regulations, and specific incidents related to education. “This is a new space for PUI youth; we must respect each other despite differences in religion or organization,” he said.

Fajar emphasized that as young people in Majalengka Regency and as Muslim generations, it’s crucial to design discussions that promote mutual understanding and respect for differences in understanding and worship. “According to the mandate of Pancasila, we should respect and appreciate differences in religion and organization,” he concluded
