MAJALENGKA – macakata.com – The Honey Bee Literacy House, which should be filled with hundreds of books and scriptures, has now added a new green facility. On a 300-square-meter plot of land in Sukajaya Block, Cijati Village, Majalengka Regency, West Java, there are at least 100 medicinal plants. These include ginger, turmeric, lemongrass, red ginger, laja, lampuyang, maja tree, salam krokot, dayak onion, and many more.
The manager of the Honey Bee Literacy House, Yayan Ahmad Yanto, said that the literacy house he manages is now more focused on educating people about medicinal plants and herbs. “Starting from the end of 2024, I tried to collect medicinal plants. Some were bought online, some were found in gardens, or asked from neighbors. The goal is to educate visitors to the literacy house,” he said on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Yayan added that the hundreds of medicinal plants and herbs serve as a real step in environmental education and direct education in a real form, as well as a form of food security. “Sometimes, just reading books about herbs is not enough without knowing the actual shape of the plant. It’s not fun. But seeing it directly is very exciting,” he said.
Yayan acknowledged that reading books cannot be replaced by current technological advancements. However, the sensation of real learning will be felt when there are direct activities like gardening and planting. “Almost all the plants and trees here have benefits and potential as medicine. Currently, health is very expensive, and gardening activities are also healthy,” he said.
Yayan also expressed his gratitude to the Cijati Village and Rumah Zakat for their support in developing the Honey Bee Literacy House. “They helped by donating plants and other supporting factors. So now, the Honey Bee Literacy House looks more real and lush with many herbal medicinal plants. Thank you for the support and help, so that the nutrition garden and medicinal plant garden can be realized,” he concluded. (Acil)
